What is now Sanders, Sanders & Sullivan, PC was originally formed in 1972 when Mike Sullivan and Douglas W. Sanders, Sr., formed the law partnership of Sullivan & Sanders, practicing law together in the DIAL Building on Dewey Avenue, directly across the street from the current Law office location.  Mike Sullivan remains as the Senior Partner in the Law firm although he is retired from the active practice of Law after more than 50 years as a practicing Attorney in Oklahoma.  Mike also served in the Oklahoma Legislature, as the elected District Attorney for LeFlore and Latimer Counties in Oklahoma and as President of the Poteau School Board. Douglas W. Sanders Sr., in addition to practicing law with Mike served as a Special Judge in LeFlore County, as the Marshall for the Oklahoma Supreme Court and as a member of the Board of Governors for the Oklahoma Bar Association, before his passing in 1993.  Mike's Son, Jonathan K. Sullivan, left the firm after being appointed as the Special Judge in LeFlore County. Jonathan K. Sullivan was then elected and currently serves as the District  Judge for the 16'th Judicial District in Oklahoma which includes LeFlore, Latimer and Haskell Counties.

Douglas W. Sanders, Jr., nicknamed 'Dougal' by his Dad, has continued the Law practice. Dougal was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on January 13, 1958. He graduated from Poteau High School in 1976, Oklahoma State University in 1980 and Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1983.  Dougal was named the Outstanding Oklahoma City University Law School Alumnus in 1999.  He was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar Association in 1984 and as a member of the Western, Eastern and Northern U.S. District Courts in Oklahoma along with the Western District Federal Court in Arkansas. Mr. Sanders is a member of the American Bar Association and is also a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

Dougal has been elected to and held every Office in the Oklahoma Bar Association, serving as Vice President in 1997 and as President of the Oklahoma Bar Association in 1999.  He is a Benefactor, Sustaining Fellow and has served as a Trustee of the Oklahoma Bar Foundation.Sanders served as the LeFlore County Bar Association President from 1991 thru 1996.  

Dougal was appointed to the Oklahoma Board of Bar Examiners by Oklahoma Supreme Court Justice Ralph B. Hodges in 2000, and then again by his replacement Justice Steven Taylor.  Sanders served as Chair of the Oklahoma Board of Bar Examiners in 2008 and retired from the Board in 2010.  

Dougal was appointed to succeed his Dad as the Municipal Judge for  Poteau, Pocola, Spiro and Shady Point, Oklahoma upon the passing of Doug, Sr., in 1993 and continues to serve as the Municipal Judge for the largest Towns in LeFlore County.
